If you are a user of Microsoft Windows or Xbox 360, you are likely to be familiar with Windows Media Center -- an application that allows users to view and record live television, as well as organize and play music and videos. WMC is included in various versions of Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate and all editions of Windows 7 except for Starter and Home Basic.

We recommend a Media Center Extender to received streamed media content for playback on television. Xbox 360 is a typical Extender. Not only a phenomenal game console, xbox 360 can also be turned to the nexus of home media center. While an NAS could be directly accessed by Xbox 360, the embedded Windows Media Player feature also makes it perfectly adapted with your WMC PC. It takes only a few click to connect your console to computer.
Once you have your Xbox 360 networked, select the Media tab on the main menu of Xbox 360 and then select Media Center. The Xbox will ask if you want to connect to a Windows Media Center PC. Simply click Continue and wait for the Xbox to locate you computer. Then it will display an 8-digit setup key. Write it down for later usage.
Leave the Xbox and open Windows Media Center on the computer. On the Start screen, scroll the Tasks and then click Add Extender. WMC will ask for the Xbox's setup key. Enter the key you just wrote down and click Next. Select Yes when you are asked whether you'd like to share media with your Extender. (If a User Account Control dialog box pop up asking permission to run the Media Center Extender, allow it and continue.)
It usually takes a minute or two for Media Center to configure your media library. Afterwards, Clicked Finish to complete the setup process. your Xbox 360 should now display the Windows Media Center Start screen.
