There's no doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S2 or S II is the phone that everybody seems to be talking about at the moment. It has yet to see a U.S. release but rumors are that it will arrive on major US carriers next month. We know how many of our readers are waiting for its arrival and in the meantime have been comparing the Galaxy S2 against other smartphones in a bid to help you make a choice. Today's comparison is the Galaxy S2 vs. the Nokia X7 and we'll look to see which is the better prospect.
To be honest the Galaxy S2 seems to have outstripped most of the other phones we've compared it with so far and only been closely matched by a few. We've compared it against the HTC EVO 3D, the Motorola Droid Bionic, the new Nokia N9, the Droid X2, Atrix 4G and HTC Sensation among others. Click on the links for any of those previous comparisons and you'll also find more on specs for the Galaxy S2. The Nokia X7 is not a phone we're as familiar with, although we did post an article back in April about this rather uniquely styled smartphone along with expected specs.
Over on Know Your Mobile, Paul Briden has taken a good look at the Galaxy S2 in opposition to the Nokia X7 and picked a winner over several categories. For the form factor the Galaxy S2 was chosen winner because of its sleek slimline design and although the Nokia X7 design is described as "a welcome break from the norm" the Galaxy S2 still comes out tops. The Galaxy S2 takes it on the display too with its 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display (much praised in reviews) and higher resolution edging out the 4-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of the X7. The Galaxy S2 wins yet again for the storage and this time it's not even close as its 16 or 32GB option with 1GB of RAM far outstrips that on the X7.
Are you beginning to see a pattern here yet? On to the processor and again the Galaxy S2 wins with a dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A9 processor, against the single-core 680MHz ARM-11 of the Nokia X7. To be honest it's not even close again and it's beginning to look a little embarrassing for the Nokia X7. Looking next at the operating systems the Galaxy S2 runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread while the Nokia X7 is on the Symbian Anna update of Symbian^3. Again it's a knockout for the Galaxy S2. Finally we take a look at the camera and this is one area where both are very good but again the Galaxy S2 takes it. The Nokia X7 has an 8-megapixel camera and video capture at 720p but no second camera. The Galaxy S2 also has an 8-megapixel camera but video capture is better at 1080p and it also has a front-facing 2-megapixel camera. For much more about each category see the full article at the Know Your Mobile link above.
Sadly for the Nokia X7 then this is a bit of a no-contest as the Samsung Galaxy S2 swept the board in every category. The X7 isn't a bad handset and does have a decent camera and if you prefer Symbian to Android then it may be the phone for you. If that's not the case though it has to be said that once again the Galaxy S2 is the better prospect. What are your thoughts on the Galaxy S2 and the Nokia X7? Could you be tempted to a Symbian phone over an Android? Let us know with your comments.
