"I have recently started downloaded HD videos from youtube using a registered downloader which is saving the video files with extension .MP4 . However when I'm trying to play the file in my WD 1 TB Live Hub then its showing the error "Unable to play the selected file"
That’s because the MP4 files with MP42(MPEG-4 version 2) codec ID is not in the list of codecs the HUB can decode. Actually the .mp4 extension at the end of the file is just the container and the mp42 is how it is encoded. So playing the MP42 encoded MP4 files on WD TV Live Hub isn’t supported. But you can remux or convert MP42 files to a more friendly codec like H.264 or MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 with extension .mp4.
Below is mainly to show you the easiest solution to convert MP42 (MP4) to H.264 or MPEG-4 codec MP4 for watching on WD TV Live Hub via a top MP42 Video Converter – Foxreal Video Converter. For Mac users, there is another alternative conversion tool – Foxreal Video Converter for Mac.
The step-by-step guide:
