To copy Blu-ray movies to your hard drive, the first thing you need to do is to get rid of those copy protections (region codes, AACS, MKB v20) from your favorite BDs. Step 1: Connect a BD ROM with your computer and insert your favorite Blu-ray disc into the drive.

If you are burning Blu-ray to DVD (or Blu-ray) videos, it is best to stick to DVD+R or DVD-R (or BD-R) since they will be the most reliable for DVD (or Blu-ray) playback on standalone DVD (or Blu-ray) players.
If you are burning Blu-ray to DVD (or BD) for data backup or for video editing, those rewriteable formats are recommended to use, including DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM (and BD-RE). But for more security for backup you can use DVD+R, DVD-R (or BD-R).
(Hint: DVD+R, DVD-R and BD-R are write once formats, which can’t be erased. BD-RE, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM are all rewriteable formats. Write, erase and write again.)

*Author a DVD/Blu-ray.

*Burn Blu-ray to DVD/BD.
After getting the DVD (or BD) structure file, you can make your own DVD/BD movies via your disc burner software. If you don't own such kind of burning programs, it is recommended to use these free one (ImgBurn, FinalBurner, StartBurn, CDBurnerXP and BurnAware Free, AshampooBurning Studio) or these share one (Nero Burning ROM, Express Burn, etc).
Below is a step-by-step guide on how to burn Blu-ray movies from hard drive to DVD with ImgBurn:
Step 1: Download, install and run ImgBurn and click Write files/folders to disc button.
Step 2: Insert a blank DVD disc in the DVD burner program.
Step 3: Add the files or folders you want to burn to DVD into the Source frame (Please make sure that the files are DVD instructure files.)
Step 4: Switch to the Option tab and be sure to configure the settings as shown below:
File System: UDF.
UDF Revision: 2.01, 2.00, 1.50 or others.
Tips:
1) UDF 2.50 is the format of Blu-ray disc and UDF 2.60 is HD DVD’s format and others are DVD’s.
2) If your system is Windows XP and you want to read this disc of UDF 2.50 or 2.60, maybe you need to download a reader for UDF 2.50 and 2.60.
Step 5: Switch back on the Information tab, you can now click the Calculate button if you want to see the size of your image information.
(Notice: A Dual-layer recording allows DVD-R and DVD+R discs to store up to 8.54 gigabytes per disc, comparied with 4.7 gigabytes for single-layer discs.
A Blu-ray disc is 25G capacity of single layer and 50G of double layers. So if you plan to burn a Blu-ray, your media files should be less than that.)
Step 6: Start burning DVD disc once it’s finished calculating.
Now, you just need to wait for a while. The process of burning DVD disc will be finished. And then you will get your own DVD disc.
